LEDs Light the Way at Junior League of Tulsa
What started as getting estimates to replace parking lot lights quickly became a complete LED overhaul for Junior League of Tulsa (JLT). When a fellow board member mentioned PSO’s Small Business Energy Solutions program to Kim Smith, the JLT Headquarters Management Chair, she quickly reached out to PSO to learn more.
JLT is a local, Tulsa-based non-profit committed to ending the cycle of poverty through hands-on education and community-based programs. As a non-profit, JLT looks forward to seeing the savings on its utility bills — and saving money for its mission. (Learn more about JLT’s mission here.)
After contacting PSO, Smith was put in touch with her local small business energy consultant, First Light of Tulsa, to schedule a free energy audit. The energy consultant, Jonathan Damm, conducted the on-site energy assessment to determine how much JLT could save by upgrading to LED. During this process, every bulb is counted to develop a customized proposal with energy savings and rebates.
“The significance of the rebates made the decision easy. As soon as they saw the numbers, they were all in,” said Damm.
Together, JLT and First Light developed a plan to complete two lighting retrofit projects, updating all exterior and interior lighting to LED. “The First Light team went above and beyond to communicate their progress and answer any questions regarding the upgrades, all while getting the LEDs quickly installed,” said Smith.
Both projects required only a few days for installation. With a total of 285 fixtures retrofitted and over 380 lamps replaced the results were instant – the quality of light was greatly increased, and the new LEDs allowed fewer lights to be turned on in larger rooms.

Most importantly, the upgrades enhanced safety at the JLT headquarters for employees, volunteers, and visitors. The old parking lot fixtures were 30 years old, so outdoor lighting was dim. LED parking lot fixtures transformed their parking lot into a safe, welcoming, well-lit area.
JLT saved a total of $7,800 with PSO rebates, and is projected to save over $2,200 annually on its electricity costs. In addition to greater efficiency, JLT’s lighting now has a longer lifespan, greater durability and requires less maintenance.
Consider upgrading your small business or non-profit to LED lighting – a smart solution to enjoy a lifetime of energy savings.
