PSO Project Strengthens Reliability and Prepares Grid for the Future

June 23, 2026

PSO is making a significant investment to strengthen the electric grid and deliver more reliable service for customers across its service area.

A systemwide effort is underway to upgrade more than 100 distribution circuits to higher voltage lines—an important step that improves performance, reduces outages, and allows for new technology on the grid. For customers, this means fewer outages, shorter interruptions when they do occur, and improved power quality for homes and businesses.

This multi-year initiative reflects PSO’s continued focus on proactive improvements that benefit customers every day. The work includes installing new poles, crossarms, wire, and other modern equipment designed to serve communities for decades to come. As of May 2026, crews have upgraded 595 transformers, replaced 1,934 poles, and installed more than 450,000 feet of wire.

Some of the lines being upgraded date back decades, making this one of the most impactful modernization efforts on the system. By upgrading these circuits, crews are preparing the grid to be updated with new technology.

This progress is being made across the state in areas like Tulsa, Lawton, and Okmulgee. With 37 crews dedicated to the work, progress is steady and highly visible in the communities PSO serves.

“When you see this work in the field, it resembles a major storm response—with multiple crews working simultaneously to upgrade equipment and strengthen the system,” said Tyler Devereux, Managing Director of Distribution Operations.

By proactively upgrading infrastructure, PSO is helping ensure customers experience fewer disruptions, more consistent service, and a grid that is ready to meet both today’s needs and future demand.

This large-scale effort is expected to continue through 2030, representing thousands of hours of work and a major step forward in building a stronger, more resilient grid for Oklahoma.
