A Letter To Our Customers And Communities

A message from Stuart Solomon, President and Chief Operating Officer of PSO.

Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) is dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and competitively priced electricity to our customers, improving the quality of life in our communities, and supporting our state’s growth and development. We are proud of our more than 100 years of service to Oklahoma.

We are committed to our customers, communities and state through our excellent customer service, employee volunteerism, corporate philanthropy, and engagement in economic development.

PSO employees work hard to manage costs and deliver competitive prices for our 544,000 customers. PSO's total average prices are 14.4 percent below the average for Oklahoma, and 35.4 percent below the national average.

At the same time, PSO provides service you can count on. Due to our reliability enhancement program, PSO's customers today experience fewer power outages than the national average and those outages last half as long. Standard industry measures show that PSO customers today receive electric service that ranks among the most reliable anywhere within or outside of Oklahoma.

Education is a major focus for PSO – with special emphasis on Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM) initiatives.

  • In 2015, we announced a $3 million gift over five years by our parent company’s American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation to the Tulsa Community College Foundation, for the Credits Count program. This contribution will enable thousands of students in the Tulsa Public School system to explore STEM fields and gain college credits in high school.
  • In 2016, we are providing 27 grants to high school and middle school robotics teams, and to teachers for bringing STEM curriculum into classrooms.
  • Our strong support of early childhood education also has a STEM component. Annually, we sponsor the “Bright Start, Right Start” Preschool Teacher Science Workshop, which is focused on incorporating science into the preschool setting.

In other early childhood education initiatives, we partner with Tulsa’s Bunche Early Childhood Development Center where employees read to 4 & 5-year-olds every Friday during the school year. We also work with our communities across the state to celebrate the Week of the Young Child each April.

To build on our long legacy of employee volunteerism in our communities, we launched the PSO CONNECTS program in 2015 to provide mini-grants to nonprofit organizations and schools for which employees and retirees volunteer significant amounts of their time and talents.

Every year, PSO provides financial support to hundreds of organizations that contribute to the well-being and vitality of our communities. We also award grants from the AEP Foundation to education, human services and arts endeavors.

In 2015, PSO’s contributions to nonprofits and economic development, plus AEP Foundation grants on behalf of PSO, totaled more than $3.6 million…including pre-K through higher education, basic human needs, arts and culture, and mini-grants to community organizations for economic development efforts.

We are also committed to giving customers every tool they need to better manage their family or business budget. Through our Power Forward consumer programs, we offer to customers resources they can use to reduce their electricity costs and also take advantage of incentives on energy-saving upgrades and services.

We are proud of our Company’s significant contributions to Oklahoma’s growth, development and quality of life for over 100 years. We look forward to continuing our partnership with our customers and communities as we work together for the future success of our great state.
