Creating a cleaner energy future together

Watch video

For over a century, PSO has been serving our communities in innovative ways, delivering reliable and affordable power with increasing amounts of clean energy in our mix. Across the country, wind is now the largest renewable resource and natural gas is affordable and abundant. Together, Oklahoma wind energy and natural gas generation balance the need for flexible, clean and affordable electric energy. The result - we all benefit from a well- balanced energy mix that delivers some of the lowest rates in the nation.

Wind already provides 22% of PSO’s energy mix today, giving our communities dependable, renewable low-cost power. Natural gas currently provides a significant portion of PSO’s energy mix as well and will continue to be an increasingly important fuel source for power generation.

The next step in our long-range plan to increase reliance on natural gas and renewable energy resources, PSO is proposing to add 675 megawatts (MW) of Oklahoma wind-generated power. The proposal includes a 45.5% share of wind facilities generating a total of 1,485 MW. In short, this innovative proposal will increase wind capacity while lowering customer bills and boosting Oklahoma’s rural economy with a $2 billion investment.

PSO’s Proposed Wind Energy Plan

As part of our long-range plan to keep customer rates affordable by relying on natural gas and renewable resources, PSO is proposing to acquire a 675 megawatt share of three wind facilities that will generate 1,485 megawatts of wind energy. Pending regulatory approval by the Corporation Commission, customers can expect:

Lower Customer Bills: Customers will save over $1 billion, net of cost, during the time these three facilities are in service. This will provide a low-cost, renewable energy resource to help maintain stable rates for PSO customers over the next 30 years.

Economic Benefits: Approximately $2 billion will be invested in Oklahoma’s economy with PSO's investment totaling $908 million. This economic boost will create jobs in construction, operations and maintenance while generating increased revenues for schools and infrastructure across our state.

Clean energy for the future: Oklahoma wind will power more of the energy needed for homes and businesses. Affordable and renewable energy attracts new investment to our state while giving customers clean, reliable energy.

We believe in the promise of clean energy and are committed to bringing that to all of our communities. Cleaner, more affordable energy to power our lives. A more robust Oklahoma economy boosted by new jobs. Increased revenues for our communities and schools. That’s what we call a powerful, boundless future.
