Renewable energy from PSO
PSO supports renewable energy. All Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) customers began enjoying the benefits of wind power with the completion of FPL Energy's Weatherford Energy Center in April 2005. PSO announced an agreement with FPL Energy in June 2004 to purchase up to 106.5 megawatts of Oklahoma-generated wind power for 20 years. In May 2005, PSO announced an agreement to purchase an additional 40.5 megawatts from an expansion of the Weatherford project, with expected completion in December 2005. PSO also announced agreements to purchase 151.2 megawatts from Zilkha Renewable Energy’s Blue Canyon II project, scheduled for completion by the end of 2005.

While PSO currently does not have a program for customers to specifically choose renewable energy, the power PSO customers receive includes wind energy at a cost no greater than the cost of power provided by natural gas facilities. Wind power joins hydro power in the current mix of renewable energy resources as PSO continues to offer some of the lowest energy prices in the United States.

The company will include the cost of this purchased power in its fuel costs. Given the current cost of natural gas, this action could slightly reduce that portion of customers’ bills as it replaces the purchase of natural gas for power generation.
