Wind Power For PSO Customers
Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) customers began receiving wind-generated electricity when Oklahoma’s newest and largest wind farm, FPL Energy’s Weatherford Wind Energy Center, began commercial operations in April 2005.

Weatherford TurbinePSO is continuing its position as the largest distributor of wind generation in Oklahoma through agreements to purchase power from an expansion of the Weatherford facility and from a new Zilkha Renewable Energy facility under construction near Lawton.

The 106.5-megawatt Weatherford Wind Energy Center, located near Weatherford, is the result of a partnership between PSO and FPL Energy, LLC, announced last year. The expansion, announced in May 2005, will mean an additional 40.5 megawatts (MW) wind power, also purchased under a long-term contact.

PSO also will purchase 151.2 MW from Zilkha Renewable Energy’s Blue Canyon II project through 10-year agreements announced in February (120.6 MW) and March (30.6 MW).

Zilkha is installing 84 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 1.8 MW, at the site about 15 miles north of Lawton. The company anticipates a commercial operation date for the facility in December 2005.

PSO delivers more wind-generated electricity to customers in Oklahoma than anyone else.
The Weatherford Wind Energy Center and Blue Canyon II projects allow PSO to provide clean, renewable and low-cost wind power to customers.
