8th Annual Oklahoma Science Teachers Workshop: Experimental Design: An Introductory Course in Scientific Inquiry

Dates: June 16-18, 2008

This free, three-day, hands-on, minds-on workshop is designed to help Oklahoma science teachers, Grades 6 to 12, find strategies that work for classrooms and competitions. Based upon the book Students and Research – and taught by co-author Dr. Ronald N. Giese – the workshop will make it easier for teachers to help students develop the skills they need to successfully conduct, analyze and report an experiment.

Participants will receive instructional materials to help teach experimental design, the book, Students and Research, and practical strategies for conducting experimental research, authentic assessment and working with parents. Includes a tour of PSO’s generating station in Jenks.

Who’s Eligible: Oklahoma secondary science teachers; targeted for grades 6-12.

Credits: Professional development credits apply. Participants will also be eligible for additional professional development opportunities.

When: Classroom sessions will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, June 16-18.

Where: Fulton Teaching and Learning Academy, Tulsa.

Cost: Free

Lodging: Paid by attendee; information will be made available to participants.

Class size: 45 teachers
